Get QuotesThe solar company I had for 10+ years, NJRCEV charged $75.46/month lease. We never were charged sales tax. My first bill came on May3,2025. The total was $75.46 +$5.00 tax. Do the math $75.46 x 6.625% Tax=$5.00. I did a google search and here was the response: No, there is no sales tax on solar panel leases in New Jersey. New Jersey offers a full sales tax exemption for all solar energy equipment, regardless of whether it's purchased or leased. This means that individuals leasing solar panels are not required to pay sales tax on the lease payments. I sent this to Spruce with no response.
Our power company, NJ Clean Energy Ventures, was taken over by Spruce Power, unfortunately. We received our first communication from Spruce today, and from jump street, I can see that we are going to have nothing but problems with them. We were overcharged, they charged us sales tax, the portal is a sad excuse for providing system information, and Spruce does not monitor their systems. This company leaves a lot to be desired. When I called to question why my bill was more per month, I was told it was a system error. Not a good way to start out a new relationship. Sending out an incorrect first bill is something that QC should have discovered, and corrected before bills went out. I then asked about the system portal, which only gives production, and nothing else. No micro inverter information, and no way to do a health check up on the system. When I asked if the system was monitored, since I am unable to detect any issues with the lame information I have access to, I was told that they don't monitor, we need to report any issues, which is useless, as I am unable to detect any issues, as that is not information that is available to me. They did not include any information about how to access the portal. I had to seek this information out myself. 1 star for communication 1 star for billing 1 star for confidence in this company. And...I am not alone. Many customer reviews echo mine.
Spruce is the worst company ever. They never answer phones, don't return calls unless you owe money, don't fix equipment, overcharge on almost all their bills based on reported production and so much more. I feel trapped as a consumer
I've been paying "estimated" bills for 6 months now to no avail. The panels aren't working, so I'm paying spruce outrageous bills based on estimates while my pge true up is though the roof. They are horrible and do nothing to serve you. They'll lie, cheat, and extort you with no way for you, the customer, to get justice. I think it's time to contact a lawyer.
They email me that I am not their customer . The panels are not working I am paying lot as of money for my monthly electricity. No service, panels are not working. I have sent so many certified letters NO RESPONSE. They are formal thieves. The just want money for doing nothing and damaging my life. They damaged my great credit score. They told me we can’t give any service BUT YOU HAVE TO PAY. Bunch of thieves are running this come. THEY SHOULD GO TO JAIL. 1 star is a lot
I was a customer of NRG and signed a lease in 2015. Nrg then sold to Spruce. My electic bill was high so I called spruce 9/23. They assured me everything was working properly. I chalked the bill up to things are so expensive. Novasource a third party came out to swap a meter. He found the system off, the meter off and the circuit tripped. He said his company would be back in two weeks. He said they would write a report for spruce. I called Spruce to follow up 10 days later as I hadnt heard from novasource or spruce . The rep told me the system was fine....she even reviewed the laat two days of production. How was there any production? The system was off. This was a 100 percent lie just like in Sept. I asked for a supervisor. She was claiming the same. We went back and forth. She slipped and said they noticed a decrease in production in Jan. She said they tried to contact me. They never did. She said it was via email and the only email I got was an open ticket I jad started when I called to ask in Sept. No one contacted me about production. I contacted them and they said all was well. She said she would reach out to the dispatch team who would reach put to novasource. It took her four days to follow up with yet another lie saying my system is fixed. It wasn't and still isnt. Sooooo many reviews say the same. Beware!
